Move-In Day Mafia to Send 22 Students to HBCUs During Weekend Celebration

By The Metro Record | BLKHustle.com

This weekend, Move-In Day Mafia is back at it—doing more than talking about change. They’re making it happen in a big way.

The grassroots-powered organization will help 22 students head to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including 10 bound for schools in the Atlanta University Center (AUC).

These aren’t just any students. Many come from foster care or communities that rarely see fair access to higher education. For them, this isn’t just move-in day—it’s a moment of legacy.

Since launching in 2022, Move-In Day Mafia has already supported 84 students across 21 HBCUs. Their mission is simple: get our kids in the door—and keep them surrounded by support every step of the way.

“Nationally, 70% of foster youth say they want to attend college. Only 3% enroll. Just 1% graduate. Those stats don’t scare us—they fuel us.”

This Ain’t Your Grandmama’s Bingo

The celebration kicks off Friday, July 12 with what might be the most unexpected—and unforgettable—fundraiser of the summer:

THE HBCU BOUGIE BINGO EXPERIENCE.

— Hosted by Emmy Award-winning Sherri Shepherd

— Music by celebrity DJ Mike Jackson (DJ Fadelf) from Married to Real Estate

— Featuring Food, Surprises, Prizes — “Dice on the Yard” and “Blackjack” — Live Entertainment and Auction

This is not your typical bingo hall. It’s high-energy, high-impact, and unapologetically Black. It’s culture, community, and cause—all in one room.

🎟️ Get your tickets at MoveInDayMafia.org/Bingo before they sell out.

Why This Mission Hits Different

Move-In Day Mafia doesn’t just drop off comforters and bounce.
They bring mentorship, visibility, and a village-level commitment.
Every box packed and every hand lifted says the same thing:
You are seen. You are supported. You belong.

And they back that up with presence. With consistency. With love.

“We’re not just building scholars—we’re building belief systems. That’s what makes it different.”

How You Can Pull Up

This work is powered by the community, not corporations.
It’s funded by everyday people who believe our kids deserve every opportunity—and then some.

Here’s how to plug in:

  • 💸 Donate to fund a student’s move-in journey

  • 🙌 Volunteer your time or skills

  • 📢 Spread the word and tag someone who should know about this

📥 Visit MoveInDayMafia.org/InfoBrochure for more.

Because let’s be honest—getting a Black or Brown kid to college shouldn’t feel like an act of resistance.

But until the world catches up—we hustle different.
And this weekend?
We move with purpose. We move with love.
We move them in.
